Recovering from a Hernia Operation.

Post operative instructions.

If you feel fine, you can go home 2 to 3 hours after surgery. However, if you are anxious about undergoing a hernia repair on a day-case basis then you may stay overnight.

Once you leave one of our Hernia Centres after your hernia repair you will have a few restrictions. You will be asked not to drive for 2 days. You can climb stairs, go for a walk or even begin light lifting (up to 20lbs). Most patients resume normal activity within a few days. Virtually all other physical activity, such as jogging, tennis, cycling and golfing can be resumed in 2 to 3 weeks. You should however avoid lifting heavy weights for about 6 weeks.
